Snapping off fresh asparagus for salads is fun. Chasing a damn steer around the corn field is not. Walking around the Square at the Saturday Madison Farmers’ Market is fun. Laying Farm Guard fence line to keep the damn steers in is not.
Things are good here at the farm, though. The Beedle Kitty is thriving. He is getting right in there with the dogs, playing now, and cuddling with us sisters. Hattie has traveled across two cornfields, rolled in dead deer, (I know, that is sad), and she has pond mud in her collar.
Mom is picking up rocks, and planting geraniums. Sister 2 is mowing and getting ready to host the Fam tomorrow. There will be Costco Birthday Cake, Margaritas (I pray), and lots and lots of laughing. Dad is making runs to Fosdahl’s Bakery for “those good buns,” and still plans to get the cemetery done by Memorial Day, even it takes until midnight. Since he doesn’t pick up rocks, he drives. Glad for that!
So, we have our fishing licenses, now, and we are ready for whatever comes our way. Have a wonderful Memorial Day weekend. We are so glad our dad, a WWII vet, did not pay the ultimate sacrifice, thankful for the ones that did, and we are all enjoying the “Up North State of Mind” from Skeeter Bite Forest, von Stiehl Winery .
